We shot this look between lectures in this cavernous car park entrance. I love how the distress of the location clashes with the polished ensemble. I bought these culottes in an ill daze the other day (I blame the painkillers!) but now I'm en route to recovery I am super pleased with them. I've never had a pair before so I can't wait to experiment with them! Despite their potentially challenging shape, I reckon they could be dressed up or down for a range of occasions.

I styled them today with a high neck crop top and my new heeled boots (which I am equally besotted with). I threw on my faux fur coat to keep me snug and a pair of sunnies because the sun actually decided to make an appearance today! Too bad my antibiotics warn me to stay out of direct sunlight.

If you have any advice for styling culottes or wide leg trousers please comment below :)

NEW IN: Pink Patent Flats

ASOS pink flats (similar)

I recently bought these shoes off my friend Hannah, who'd purchased them to pair with a garment from her latest knitwear project. They're not the typical pair I'd pick up in a store (I normally go for something black... or heeled) but when I tried them on for the shoot, I fell in love.

On first glance they may seem like a frivolous purchase, but hear me out!

Firstly, they're pink (heard about my new obsession?) and patent (all the shiny things please). They go super well with jeans and make my ankles look slimmer. In warmer climes, I'd imagine they'd go well with bare legs and an A-line skirt. I also love the pointed shape, which elongates the lower half of the body. They're the perfect refresher to my drab winter outfits, and are smart enough to wear for a variety of events (lunch, evening drinks, uni, work). Finally, these shoes are a hybrid of two shoe trends: pointy patent boots and ballet flats. Two birds, one stone.

TREND WATCH: Pink//Red Style

The colour clashing combo of pink and red is predicted to be a big trend for Spring/Summer 2016. I personally adore this idea, which is strange, coming from a lover of all things neutral. The first hint of this trend came from my housemate Hannah, whose latest knitwear project was based around this colour pairing. Then I saw the perfect pink/red British Vogue cover (November issue if you were wondering). I even included blush and rose shades in my range for my recent Buying and Merchandising assignment (I study BA Fashion Management).

My Pinterest board on Pink/Red Style is on the small side, as we are only seeing glimpses of this trend while winter keeps us bundled in darker shades of the colour spectrum (no daring street style yet!). However I predict that this trend will build in the coming months. I may be a tad early to write a post on the subject, but I am as excited to see what gems will land on the high street as I am for warmer weather. Anyway, I thought I'd share some of my favourite images as a preview - enjoy!

All images found on Pinterest, and can be sourced through my trend board.

Do you think you'll embrace this trend come Spring? What other trends are you looking forward to styling in SS16?

Mastering The Art of The 'Flat Lay'

One of my New Year goals for my blog is to improve my photography, more specifically the blogger/Instagram trend of the flat lay. For those who don't know (if you've been living under a rock) a flat lay is a arrangement of a few items (stereotypical examples include Diptyque candles, MAC lipsticks, that morning's Starbucks) captured from a height to give a bird's eye view effect.

Determined to achieve my goal, I developed a Pinterest board dedicated to flat lays for inspiration, which you can see here. I then turned my room upside down finding bits that were small or "Instagrammable". I found a spot with good daylight (studio lights are better, but I'm a poor student) and arranged away. Below are the results!

1. The Fashion Book
flat lay, fashion, beauty, make up, books, instagram, shoes
For this flat lay, I experimented with the objects peeking in from the edge of the frame, and layered the smaller beauty products over larger items. The white background (I used an A3 sheet of paper) works well as the objects stand out nicely. The Fashion Book is a precious possession as I won it for best GCSE Textiles final project. The inside cover includes a message from my favourite member of staff, wishing me luck for my future in fashion. As I'm currently completing a fashion degree to pursue a career in fashion (and running a fashion blog) it's a nice reminder that my passion is long lived.

2. Vogue on Denim
flat lay, instagram, fashion blogger, beauty
I decided to arrange this flat lay on my wooden floor, which has more homely feel than the white background. This image includes a Vogue article on denim, which made me consider ditching my skinnies for straight legs with some great street style. I'd recommend! I also ran downstairs mid session to make an espresso as I thought it was totally necessary for the image (#firstworldproblems).

3. The Metallic Make Up Bag
flat lay, instagram, fashion blogger, beauty, fragrance, perfume, make up
This image was inspired by this make up bag that my housemate Hannah got me for Christmas. She was naughty and went over the budget but I am grateful for the lovely gifts she got me. I wanted the flat lay to look like the products had been (neatly) tipped out of the bag. I found that using a mixture of small, large, thin and round items helped balance the image out.

4. The 'Essence' of an Outfit
flat lay, instagram, fashion blogger, calvin klein underwear, perfume, earrings
I experimented with a textural background for this shot. It's actually my white faux fur coat from my recent OOTD. This image is supposed to give the essence of an outfit, by including the underwear, jewellery, footwear, bag strap and fragrance. Going from the "essence", I reckon the outfit would be a sexy tuxedo or a sheer blouse and leather pencil skirt.

I want to continue working on my flat lay skills, so hopefully you'll see an improvement in future blog posts! If you've got any tips for a flat lay newbie, then holla at me in the comments below.

First #OOTD of 2016! How cute is this lil street? Locations like this are everywhere in Winchester, I'm really falling for this tiny city.

This amazing coat was a Christmas present from my parents and since then I have been wearing it to death. It's super warm and fluffy and goes with everything! It's my go-to statement piece on a jeans-and-a-tee day, and looks fabulous over a party dress. I wore it today with my relatively new jumper from New Look, which you may recognise from my December Wish List. It's high neck and cropped, meaning I'm snug but not swamped. I paired the jumper with my trusty leather skirt and patent brogues, which was the perfect outfit for a walk on a particularly crisp day.

If you're thinking about getting a faux fur coat I would definitely urge you to! Keeps you cosy yet stylish and everyone wants to hug/touch/stroke you (am I putting you off?) because you look like a polar bear. Tweet me if you want to look like a polar bear too.

P.S. I'm serious about the tweeting - @AyaOguri - pics of faux fur are welcomed!

WISH LIST | January 2016

Happy New Year! I apologise for the lack of posts recently, the holidays and uni deadlines got in the way. However I have two weeks off now, so with New Year optimism and all that, I am determined to get back in the blogging game. I'm starting 2016 off with a wish list (shock horror) as we all need some new bits for a fresh year. Plus, there's nothing like a bit of retail therapy to keep the January blues away.

Let's talk about this Tobi shift. It's black (obviously) and has a beautiful 90s neckline. But it's star feature is it's split sides with lace up detailing. I been on the lookout for a new LBD and this one ticks all the boxes whilst being a unique choice. Gorgeous.

Next up is this shearling clutch from Topshop. I have been obsessed with faux fur this season and Topshop have been producing lots of furry gems recently, this clutch being one of them. The leather compliments the fur beautifully and I love it's unique spacious shape, meaning it can be carried during the day.

Surprise surprise it's Saint Laurent. When I was browsing Net-a-Porter I fell in love with this piece before I knew the brand. The only bracelets I wear are chain style, as I prefer edgy pieces to feminine. I love how the piece is made up of silver safety pins - a punky yet surprisingly elegant quirk. It would look perfect on a slender wrist, stacked next to a chunky silver watch.

These nude boots from Missguided are patent pleather with a perspex heel. They should look hideous with that description but I was instantly attracted to them. Maybe its the Dior vibe (remember those PVC thigh highs?) and the midi height, which cuts the calf off at a flattering length. I'll probably hate them next season, but for now I'm dreaming away...

So I - along with the rest of the female population - have been lusting after a Givenchy Antigona since they debuted, but this studded edition has pushed me over the (designer handbag) edge. There is something so classic about this sturdy black bag, and the embellishment adds a little edge. This one is in the cute "mini" size, but definitely has space for a wallet and day planner.

Sunglasses have become a frequent occurrence to my monthly wish lists, because like bags (see above... and above) I can't stop dreaming about them. This particular pair I first saw on Shani Grimmond, who could not stop making her weird grunting noises over them (its a good thing) and I can see why. I love the cat eye shape in bold matte black and the silver accents on the corners are a gorgeous detail. They would also go with everything, and I've been wanting a pair of Quay sunnies for ages due to their quality

What have you been wishing for in 2016?
