My Top Five High Street Fashion Staples

My staples are reliable pieces that I wear all the time, every season, and my wardrobe would not be the same without them!

1. H&M Tube Skirts
These are definitely a staple for me. I currently have three in my wardrobe (two black, one grey) and I wear them all year round. In the summer I pair them with bare legs and converse and in the colder months I wear them with tights and ankle boots. If I'm wearing a tube skirt, I usually throw on a jumper or loose crop top because I like to keep the silhouette balanced - one half fitted and the other more relaxed.

2. M&S Tights
M&S isn't normally the first port of call for the fashion conscious 18-year-old, but as a UK inhabitant and a skirt lover, I wear a lot of tights and M&S offer hands down the best ones on the market. The fabric is smooth, doesn't bobble, ladder or get loose threads. I prefer the Body Sensor 40 Denier ones, as these are good quality and I like it when you get the hint of skin showing through. I also think they slim the legs. I typically wear them on their own, or with over-the-knee socks for wintery days.

3. Topshop Jeans
I have always had a pair of Topshop jeans in my wardrobe. Even when I was still shopping from the childrenswear in other stores, my mum and I would get my skinny jeans from the petite section in Topshop. My favourites are the Jamie jeans, as they are high-waisted and the fabric is slightly elasticated, meaning they hold you in and are super flattering. They also end just above the ankle which is perfect for wearing with boots. The colour also doesn't fade and they keep their shape.

4. Zara Handbags
For reliable, classic handbags at reasonable prices, Zara is the best on the high street. Their handbags are catwalk inspired, but aren't seasonal so you can wear them all year round. They also look more expensive than they are, are better quality than others on the high street and don't break easily (Topshop, here's looking at you).

5. Topshop Jewellery
I'm not the biggest jewellery shopper, but large earrings to cover my lobes are a necessity! I want them to be massive, which can be hard to track down but Topshop provide many options. I like their rings and I need one of their collars in my collection.  The jewellery section in the Oxford Street flagship is one of my favourite places to browse. I was once approached in there by a man clutching several statement necklaces, exclaiming "Is this the place to be?!" in his accented voice. I guess he was just as taken by the huge range of jewellery as me.

Lingerie Dreams

As a follow-up to my last post on affordable lingerie, I decided to share my wish list for lingerie that is over my budget. I've put links to all the products at the bottom.

The Stella McCartney triangle bra (1) is part of her 'Millie Drawing' collection and is pretty and delicate, with a blush pink underband giving a sporty vibe. It looks more comfortable than I can ever imagine a bra being. I also chose these 'Knickers of the Week' briefs (5), because I just couldn't resist this adorable set. They would also make a great gift for any underwear enthusiasts.
This delicate bra from Kiki de Montparnasse (6) made from silk chiffon looks so luxurious. The bottom is edged with eyelash lace, which is super flattering.
On the subject of triangle bras, this dreamy one from Hanky Panky (7) fastens at the front with a clasp, which is hidden by the ribbon, giving a flirty look. The lace is also woven with gold thread - meaning you twinkle when you move.
Calvin Klein is most famous for their sportswear inspired underwear, however the brand offers a gorgeous selection of more feminine lingerie too. This bra (2) is made of nude jersey, for that comfort CK is known for, and is overlaid with black lace. The racerback style makes the bra unique and seductively emphasises the bare back.
No lingerie brand does luxury quite like La Perla. For their 60th anniversary, they released a bra made entirely of 24K gold thread. The one I picked (4) isn't quite that expensive, but is bloody gorgeous. It comes in a sumptuous claret colour, with nude inserts to give the appearance of cut-outs. The long-line silhouette flatters the shape, hugging the rib cage, and I love how the boning is visible.
My absolute favourite luxury lingerie brand is Agent Provocateur. Their designs are varied, unique and racy. I chose the Chiki briefs (3) as I feel they best sum up the brands aesthetic. The criss-cross lace bands emphasise the curves and are oh-so-seductive. The three bows are crazy ostentatious but I love it!

Affordable Lingerie

The way I feel about lingerie is different to any other apparel that I wear. Its delicate and beautiful, and v sexy. If I had unlimited money, I probably would have more underwear than a Victoria's Secret factory, however as a student, I have a limited budget for pretty knickers.

But underwear is very important to me. I feel better about myself when I know I have lacy set on, even if no one else sees it. Its like a bold lip, or heels -  it instantly gives you a confidence boost.
Obviously I swoon over lingerie from La Perla and Agent Provocateur etc, but I have grudgingly accepted that is not going to happen during this life stage. Affordable, decent yet sexy underwear can be hard to find when you are searching for that perfect bra or lacy thong. So I thought that I would review my highstreet favourites.

M&S:
Yes, I know. Most girls from the UK will have been to M&S with their mums to get measured and handed sensible cotton t-shirt bras. But, for those that appreciate comfort from their bras and are not too fond of the push-up, its a good option. I would recommend the Limited Collection underwear for something more seductive than schoolgirl. And for those that can afford to splurge, the Rosie for Autograph collection is gorgeous.

Topshop:
I love the knickers available from Topshop. They have a huge range to match all ages and personalities, and I have bought pretty much all the styles. For modest and comfortable styles I would recommend the Boypants and the Ladypants. One style you must NOT buy are the all lace briefs. These were the most uncomfortable panties I have worn in my life, and trust me I have worn a lot of different underwear. From a girl to a girl - don't put yourself through that.

Oww!

The thongs, mini knickers and Brazilian thongs are a little more racy and are flattering on. However I'm not a fan of their ruched-style elasticated briefs. I find them unattractive on.
I have been put off buying Topshop bras I find they don't fit very well, and two of mine are unwearable because the underwiring has worked its way out of the bra, exposing sharp metal - not safe!

H&M:
I am very fond of H&M lingerie. I find that their bras fit me well, look great on (and off) and are crazy affordable. I have had some of my bras for over a year now, and they haven't broken, or fallen out of shape. However, the majority of their bras do have padding which may mean this brand isn't suitable for some.

Tezenis:
This Italian underwear brand is very affordable and seems to have a permanent sale on. Their flagship store on Regent's Street has an unappealing exterior with massive 'sales' signs plastered over the windows, but persevere! Their lingerie ranges from basic to racy and each style comes in a variety of colours. Their garments flatter the body and are so affordable. I have walked out there with two pairs of panties and a bra for £12.

Urban Outfitters:
Yes, this retailer is pricier than those mentioned above, but they do the best triangle bras on the highstreet. For those who like lacy, delicate, barely-there lingerie - this is the place for you. Their briefs are also very flattering and comfortable - rare in the girly world of underwear - and you can get 20% off if you buy three briefs or more.

Sales!
One of my favourite times to buy underwear is during the sales. My top places to visit are Boux Avenue, Gilly Hicks and Victoria's Secret. They may seem inaccessible at other times of the year but are crazy discounted during certain periods.

A Desire for Public Desire

You may have come across the online shoe brand Public Desire on Instagram. I heard about them from my sister, who when it comes to affordable fashion, is always in the know.
They offer a wide range of really gorgeous shoes, and with prices ranging from £19 - £39, its right up my street.

I have these black and oxblood chelsea boots, which are incredibly versatile and I have been wearing them with everything - jeans, cigarette trousers and skirts. They even work with over-the-knee socks!

I also wore their Amie over the knee boots on NYE and they were gushed over by a lot of tipsy girls that I knew and some that I didn't.

Amie Black Suede Over The Knee Chunky Boots

My wish list:

The peep toe Harper heels are a favourite because I love the shape and the heel is 6". I chose the black leather, which is more versatile than the cut outs.
I like the Jessi shoes so much I featured them twice! The white pair look minimalist with a modern edge, and the sparkly black ones were necessary as I am going through a massive glitter faze at the moment.
The Iris ankle boots are my perfect pair as they are in black leather, have a decent platform with a cleated sole and the detailing adds some interest to the boot.
Finally, are the Celine block heels. I almost died when I first saw these. I have had an obsession with fluffy mules since I was tiny and marching around in 'clip-clops'. It is an ambition of mine to pair my kimono with Agent Provocateur pink fluffy mules, and wear them around my fantasy apartment sipping a martini and generally just being fabulous. However, these ones from Public Desire are just practical enough to wear out, as it has an ankle strap for support and comes in a nude.
